DTP in a professional context is all about balancing workflow with creativity. While, of course, you need to deliver the best product that you can, for the sake of consistency and efficiency you need a fundamental set of styles in place that makes the formatting of text and objects a one-click affair rather than a monotonous chore.
InDesign has its own styles character , paragraphs and object but WoodWing’s Smart Styles plug –in adds a new dimension to formatting, combining these three kinds of styles to help to quickly format any combination of object and text in one drag and drop. Like any stylesheet system, the secret is in the set-up…
And how easy it is. To create a style you create the element in the layout that you want to feature throughout your publication. Once this is done, convert this into a Smart Styles palette and naming it accordingly. Each style can be used selectively as well. Because styles are are divided into three property groups [object styles, text styles and table styles], you can choose to apply only the part of the part of the style, for example, apply onl y that.
This is a real time-saver and WoodWING has obviously thought long and hard about how the tool can benefit those working on semi-repetitive tasks on day to day basis. High recommended .
