Launched in 2003 as a premium offshoot of Movable Type, TypePad has quickly gathered following from those wishing to market their homepages without resorting to advertising. From amateur bloggers to corporations like BBC, no CMS has such a broad spread of users as TypePad. Of course, for a professional level of functionality and customisation, it’s going to cost a lot more than the basic package.

However, the standard package still offers advanced start-tracking, word banning, and text file uploads, And when it comes to getting your site noticed, it effortlessly submits your blog to Google, Technorati and Feedburner among others. Standard tracking options cover a breakdown of page views by day or week and also follows link and photo album referrals, accurate to within five minutes if required. However, when starting out you only get a limited number of templates, a basic text and HTML editor and modest picture editing functions. And although the basic package allows you to insert podcast and RSS links and work with variety of third –party widgets, the more you try to do, the more you’re encouraged-nay compelled-to upgrade , which seems to be the overwhelming to complaint about the basic package.
